Wilbert Grissett Obituary

Mr. Wilbert Grissett, son of the late Mr. Thomas Jefferson Grissett, Sr and the late Ethel Mae Gause Grissett, was born June 09th, 1954 in Loris, South Carolina and transitioned November 30th , 2022 at MUSC Columbia in Columbia SC.

Wilbert was reared in Brooksville, Little River area. He attended Chestnut High School (now North Myrtle Beach High) where he was known as a fantastic football player, earning the title of MVP. He later met and married Ellen Melvin Young of Green Sea in 1975 where they were blessed with 3 beautiful children.

Wilbert was known as a gentle soul with a huge smile, earning the nickname of “Smiley” by a few friends. He enjoyed fishing and worked as a fisherman for Eugene Platt. However, his biggest joy was his relationship with God. His form of worship was playing the guitar, which led to him singing and playing guitar in a gospel singing group.

Preceding him in death are 4 siblings, Linda Grissett – Dowe, Robert Grissett, Thomas Jefferson Grissett, Jr., and Joseph Grissett.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Le’Tonya Grissett of Atlanta, GA, Wilbert Thomas (Shawna) Grissett of Atlanta, GA, and Felicia (Edward) Taylor of Conway, SC; five grandchildren, Alexia Grissett-Moore of Atlanta, Langston Grissett of Atlanta, Jonathan Mims of Atlanta, and Jada and Jordan Taylor both of Conway, SC; four siblings, Horry (Veta) Grissett of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jemo (Gladys) Musoke of Tallahassee, FL, Brenda (Clarence) Galloway of Conway, SC, and James (Elvia) Grissett of Little River, SC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
